For wells made of timber, we ensure everything is level before installing our covers. We add extra timber if needed and create covers that fit perfectly, enhancing both function and appearance. Our timber window well covers are designed to meet your specific requirements, providing reliable protection and a seamless fit. We take the time to prepare your timber well properly, ensuring that our covers provide effective protection and an improved look.
Getting a Timber Window Well Ready for a Cover
Timber window wells are often uneven. Boards settle, shift with the soil and lose their level over the years, and a cover laid on top of an uneven well will rock or leave gaps. That is why our timber work starts before the cover is built.
Our process for timber wells
- Check the top of the well for level and look for loose or settled boards
- Add extra timber where needed so the cover has a flat, solid base
- Measure the prepared well and build the cover in our work truck
- Attach the cover to the well with clips or an interior lock
Taking the time to prepare the well is what lets the cover sit flat and protect the well properly. The finished cover uses the same polycarbonate and aluminum construction as our other custom covers and carries a lifetime structural warranty.

Some timber wells need more than a little leveling, such as tiered wells or ones that have shifted badly. Our built-up window wells and fixes service covers leveling, adjusting and creating unusual shapes. For multi-level wells, the built-up window well cover is designed for that layout. You can see every style on the custom window well covers page.
Timber Cover FAQ
Do you have to rebuild my timber well?
Not necessarily. Often the fix is leveling the top and adding timber where needed. We will tell you if the well needs more work than that.
Will the cover be attached to the timbers?
The cover attaches to the well, not the house, using stainless steel clips or a locking system, and it stays removable from inside.
Do I need to be home?
No. All the work is done outside, and we only need yard access and an outdoor electrical outlet.
